Control
Management function that involves monitoring activities to ensure that they're being accomplished as planned and correcting any significant deviations.
The control process
A 3 step process of 1) measuring actual performance, 2) comparing actual performance against a standard and 3) taking managerial action to correct deviations or to address inadequate standards.
Demonstrate the use of managerial control tools and systems.
°One control tool is planning which provides specific direction to employees and managers.
°Another effective control system is empowering employees which provides information and feedback on employee performance and minimize the chance of potential problems.
°Another control system is protecting the workplace. Managers face threats from natural disasters to scandals to violence in the workplace and managers must protect organizational assets if any of these should happen. So comprehensive controls and backup plans will help minimize work disruptions.
