Maslow’s Theory of Needs
What does PSSES stands for ?
P- Physiological Needs: these are biological Needs such as food , water , oxygen and constant body temperature. If a person is deprived of these needs , he or she will die .
S- Safety: feel safe from harm , danger or threat of destruction and shelter. Client need regularity and some predictability
S- Social Needs : friends, Intimacy , affection and love are needed- from one’s work group , family , friends or romantic relationship.
E- Esteem : stable, self-respect and respect from others
S -Self -actualization: need to be oneself, becoming what one is capable of is an ongoing process
Kind of question asked in the exam ?
- A client with an acute medical problem should focus on getting a medical evaluation first.
- A victim of domestic violence should prioritize medical and safety issues .
- A refugee must initially meet basic survival needs ( shelter, food, income, clothing etc) before working on fulfilling higher level needs .
