Social control- religion contributes to social control through ideology. religion acts as a social opium. it supports the status quo, dulls oppression and legitimises capitalist exploitation.
Religion as the opium of the people- religious distress is at the same time the expression and protest of real distress. religion is the sign of the oppressed creature just as it id the spirit of an unspiritual situation.
