Land use in the upper course
•mainly hill sheep farming due to poor soils, steep slopes, cold weathering , high rainfall and exposed hillsides
•forestry on the slopes of the upper course where farming does not occur, commercial forestry takes place as conifers can grow in the unsuitable conditions
•hydroelectric power takes place in an area of high rainfall and fast flowing water
Wind farms: advantages
•energy costs cut by 25%
•saves money
•tourists attraction makes money for the council
Wind farms : disadvantages
•RSPB complaints wild birds killed by flying into turbines
•roads need to be made using a lot of machinery and pollution
•creates larger carbon foot print just building and putting turbines up
•some people think they are an eye sore
