Enzymes
Speed up chemical reactions. Have a specific shape. End in -ase. Lowers activation energy. Are affected by temperature, substrate concentration, and pH. Enzyme inhibitors either block active site(competitive) or attach to allosteric site(non competitive)
Immobilized enzymes
Can be attached to a glass surface or trapped in an alginate gel. Can be reused and can easily separate products from the reaction. Increases the stability of change in pH and temperature
Lactose intolerance
People who cannot break down lactose because they don't have lactase in their body. They must drink lactose free milk which can be made with alginate beads or added directly to the milk
