What is pulmonary ventilation?
Commonly called "breathing;" the process of moving air into and out of the lungs.
What three processes are required for respiration to occur?
Ventilation, External pulmonary respiration, Internal cellular respiration.
What is external respiration?
Occurs in the lungs where O2 diffuses into the blood and CO2 diffuses into the alveolar air.
What is internal respiration?
Occurs in the tissues where O2 diffuses out of the blood and CO2 diffuses out of the cells. (Same as internal respiration).
What is cellular respiration?
Metabolic process by which an organism obtains energy through the reaction of O2 with glucose to produce H2O, CO2, and ATP. (Same as internal respiration).
Explain how the anatomical structure of the nasal cavity and the characteristicsof the respiratory mucosa contribute to the filtration, warming, and humidificationof inspired air.
The nasal cavity has lots of sinus' through which air can pass.
