Claims to the throne
Harold Godwinson, William of Normandy, Harold Hardrada and Edgar Atheling.
Harold Godwinson - He was English, and he came from a very powerful and rich family. Also the king apparently promised him the crown in his dying breath. He is also Edward's brother inlaw
Harold Hardrada - He was related to the previous king of England, he had a reputation as a soilder.
William of Normandy - he isn't related to Edward, but he is a good war leader and he was promised the throne.
Edgar Atheling - Edward is his great uncle, he is a small boy and hasn't proved himself yet.

Troops- 2000 HOUSECARLS- Full time warriors
5500 Fyrd - Part time warriors thier full time job was normally a farmer
All together there were 7,500
Duke William of Normandy
Troops- 4500 infantry - men at arms
2200 cavalry - men on horseback
1700 archers - long bows
All together there were 8,400
They fought Hastings. Harold's troops were camped at 'Caldbec Hill' later know as 'Senlac Hill' Norman for 'Lake of blood'
Tactics of the Battle of Hastings
Harold's tactics - he had the higher ground but less men, he could afford to wait so he could get reinforcements.
William's tactics - he had the low ground but more men, he couldn't afford to wait because Harold might get reinforcements. But he tricked Harold's men down the hill and killed them.
