Oxford dictionary says that it's a defect, blemish, imperfection, of character, thing done wrongly, blame.
Opposite of good.
Evidence for-Actus Reus
Someone who does not carry out the criminal intent is not at fault. If the accused is not in control then they cannot be found guilty. Hill v Baxter.
Evidence for-mens rea
In many pieces of law the proof of intent is needed for a defendant to be guilty, for example, in a murder case a defendant must have the intent of the crime, and if they don't then it equals to involuntary manslaughter.
