Topic Sentence
The first sentence in a body paragraph of an essay that provides general statement about the topic of that particular paragraph
Evidence
Facts, expert opinions, and other proof taken from an article or reliable source that helps the essay writer to support their thesis.
Opposing View
The other side of the issue in an argument
Rebuttal
The attempt to disprove (or poke holes) the opposing view by refuting it (or finding fault with it)
Hook
The first sentence or question in an essay that is designed to grab the reader’s attention
Thesis Statement
The sentence in the intro paragraph of an essay that states the main idea (or what you will prove) of the essay - Usually after the hook.
