primogeniture
A system of inheritance in which the oldest son inherits all property belonging to his father. This system was used during the Middle Ages in Western Europe, especially in England.
The time period during the beginning of the Middle Ages are sometimes called the Dark Ages because the civilizations of Greece and Rome had fallen. People of Western Europe spent their efforts just trying to survive the harsh conditions of their lives.
Feudalism
This was a system of loyalites and promised in which people during the Middle Ages of Western Europe participated.
