weak analogy... the universe is more like a living thing, there is continual circualtion of matter, damage and waste are remedied, each part operates to preserve itself and the whole. living things create and regulate themselves, unlike watches which require designers and technicians. conclusions are therefore weak

the argument has undesirable implications about the designer, so we want to reject it on these grounds. if this analogy holds, based on what we know about human designers, we would surmise that there is more then 1 designer to the universe

3. not enough information to affirm the universe has a cause. to know that 1 thing being the cause of another, we have to observe several instances of one thing followed by the other, but theres only one universe to observe
4. darwins theory of evolution by natural selection is a better explanation for why everythings so well adapted to the particular function it performs
