Meaning
Use what you know about sounds and the letters that make the sound to figure out the new word.
Graphemes
Written letter(s) that represent a spoken sound. For example, a student writes the letter "B" when they hear the sound /b/.
Phonics
The understanding that there is a predictable relationship between phonemes (the sounds of spoken language) and graphemes (the letters and spellings that represent those sounds in written language). When letters and sounds come together, the student is developing phonics skills.
