- uses data that is collected by someone else
- second-hand analysis of pre-existing data

META-ANALYSIS

- costly & time-consuming
⏩ as original study has to be set up
- primary data sets are often small
⏩ harder to draw conclusions
Strengths secondary data
+using existing data
⏩Less expensive
⏩Saves time
+ provides a wealth of sources (uni library, internet)
⏩Extensive database that no one researcher could collect on their own
+ variety of sources (qual+quant)
⏩Allows data to be checked for validity and realiability
Weaknesses secondary data
- data requires interpretation
⏩May be subjective
-researcher unable to personally check the data
⏩ its reliability may be questioned
- sources may be out of date
⏩Irrelevant to current situation
