Capitalism
An economic system where supply and demand market dominate; intended to make capital and profit
Colonialism
Cultural domination by larger and wealthier powers
Imperialism
A system where one country rules other territories with minor power through colonization; typically by military force
Small-Scale Society
A community composer of several dozen to several hundred members, held together by family ties (kinship) and usually participated in traditional subsistence activities
Political Economy
A social structure which is organized around economic interests, these material interests are protected and developed using power (politics)
White Man's Burden
European's belief that it is their responsibility to colonize, rule and civilize those seen as savage
Decolonization
Removal of a colonial power from a territory it controlled
Neocolonialism
Persistence or profound social and economic ties connecting formal colonial territories to their former colonial rulers despite political sovereignty
Social Forms
Culturally conforming collective ways of interacting with our surroundings and those we encounter; these interactions, usually taken for granted, are fixed behaviours which are enforced by the group
Typology
A classification system which is based on systematic organization into types based on shared characteristics
