Dualism
the belief that human nature/reality is made up of 2 equal yet different forces
Binary Opposition
Refers to the pair of opposite forces; used as an organizing principle
Idealism
the true nature of human beings is spiritual and the body inhibits the full development of mind/spirit; pure, incorruptible ideas created by the mind creates the essence of human nature
Materialism
The essence of human nature is physicality (performance of our physical body) where bodily values are more important than spiritual values
Determinism
A force, or a few simple forces, that triggers complex events
Essence
Unchanging core of attributes, makes them what they are
Holism
The belief regarding the human condition where the mind and body, individual and society, and individual and environment, merge together as well as possibly define one another
Culture
Learned behaviours and ideas that individuals gain as members of society
Co-evolution
Relations between biological processes and symbolic cultural processes; both contribute to great importance to the environment where the other must adapt
Anthropology
Study of human nature, human society and human history
