) Assess President Roosevelt's conduct of American foreign policy after 1935. When and why did he move from isolationism to interventionism in the European war? Why wasn't he more candid with the American people about what he was doing? Do you think that he purposely led the United States into War? Why or why not?
Thesis: After 1935, President Roosevelt slowly began to become more and more involved in the European war and farther away from the isolationist attitude starting with the Neutrality Act of 1939. Of course, he was not very candid with the American people regarding this largely due the fact that many Americans were reluctant to get involved; all that Roosevelt was doing was protecting his country and its democratic ideals.
