What does BIOS stand for?
= Basic Input Output System
What is it?
1. Is what allows the computer to start up.
2. Usually stored in flash memory or in EPROM
3. When a computer is first switched on it looks to the BIOS to get it up and running. BIOS carries out POST. The bootloader program is executed to load the OS' kernels into memory.
Duties of BIOS during POST
1. Verify CPU registers and ensure processor is working.
2. Find, size and verify system main memory
3. Provide user interface for system's configuration
