- Chloroplasts & large vacuoles, plant trait
-Eye-spot to detect light
-Flagellum for movement

-Autotrophic (photosynthetic,) major producer of oxygen
-Many have flagella
-Diatoms, most abundant chrysophytes, have a pair of silica shells that join together
