Objective 1
Describethe structure and function of the
components of blood:
- redblood cells
- whiteblood cells
Red Blood Cells: needs to carry oxygen around the body through the blood; No nucleus so there is a large surface area and has negmoglobin
White Blood Cells: Fights off infection and
bacteria
Describe the structure and function of the components of blood:
- plasma
- platelets
Plasma: Contains minerals and waste contains all other 3 components of blood
Platelets: clots blood so you stop bleeding
Objective 2 and 3
Describe the structure and function of blood vessels:
- Capillaries
- Veins
- Arteries
Capillaries: Link arteries to veins, walls are only 1 cell thick
Veins: Carries blood to the heart, thick walls, large lumens and has valves.
Arteries: Carries blood away from the heart, has thick walls and small lumens
Objective 4
Identify and describethe structure and function of a 4 chambered mammalian heart including:
- namesof the major chambers
- septum
- valves
Major Chambers: There are 4 chambers; left and right artery and ventricle
Septum: It separates the oxygenated blood from deoxygenated blood
Valves: Only in veins to stop blood from flowing backwards
Identify and describe the structure and function of a 4 chambered mammalian heart including:
- major blood vessels including vena cava, pulmonary arteries and veins and aorta
Vena Cava: Transports deoxegenated blood from the body to the heart
Aorta: Transports oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body
Pulmonary Arteries: Transport deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs
Pulmonary Veins: Transports oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart
Learning Objective 5
Describethe systemic and pulmonary pathway of blood in double circulation.
Learning Objective 6,7,8
Compare and contrast the circulatory systems in mammals, fish and insects.
f
Learning Objective 9
Describe the structure and function of the following:
- roots
- stems
- leaves
