What does a nucleotide consist of ?
- Nucleotides consist of :
- Sugar molecule (dexoyribose)
- Phosphate group
- Nitrogenous base
What is a gamate ?
- Gametes are diploid egg and sperm cells precursor cells divide by meiosis to produce male and famale haploid gamtes with nuclei that contain 23 chromosones.
What is a somatic cell ?
- Somatic cells : these are non-sex cells that replicate by mitosis to produce two indentical, diploid daugther cells with the sanem number of chromosomes as all the other somatic cells; including the zygote from which they orginate.
What is a cell cycle ?
Cell cycle : cell growth and DNA replicaton (interphase) is followed by mitosis in four phases
Describe the stages of mitosis
- Prophase ( chromosomes visible in nucleus and nuclear membrane dissolves
- Metaphase ( line up along equator)
- anaphase (chromosomes move apart )
- telophase ( nuclear membranes form and the cell divies in two).
- in other words a cell can divide mitotically once it has complete cipies of its DNA ( 46 x2 = 92 chromosomes after prophase)
