Define adaption.
The process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.
Describe how animals are adapted to survive in cold climates.
Polar bear:
A white appearance (camoflauge).
Thick layers of fat and fur (insulation).
A small surface area to volume ratio (lower heat loss).
A greasy coat (sheds water after swimming).
Large furry feet.
Describe how animals are adapted to survive in a dry climates.
Camel:
Large, flat feet.
Thick fur on top of body for shade.
A large surface area to volume ratio (increase heat loss).
Tolerate body temperatures up to 42ºC
Slit-like nostrils and two rows of eyelashes (keeps sand out).
