Apical Meristems
Meristems located at the ends of shoots and roots.
Cambium
Lateral meristem. Thin sheath of dividing cells that produces the vascular cells.
Xylem
Inside cambium. Conducts water, supports tree weight, stores carbohydrates, and defends against disease & decay.
Phloem
Moves sugars. These transfers require energy. Composed of living cells. Outside the cambium.
