What is the difference between poikilothermic and homeothermic organisms? What are examples of both?
Poik: body temperature varies with environment temperature--> jellyfish
Homeo: body temperature remains constant despite environmental flucuations--> birds and mammals
What is the difference between ectothermic and endothermic organisms? What are examples of both?
Ectotherms: depend on environment for heat energy-->lizards and snakes
Endotherms: rely on metabolic activity for heat energy--> mammals
How do freshwater fish maintain osmoregulation?
Saltwater?
1. gain water through osmosis, and lose it through excretion
2. gain water through drinking, lose water through osmosis
What are the components of nephrons in order of the process?
1. Bowman's capsule
2. loop of Henle
3. Collecting duct
How is urine filtrated in the kidneys?
Nutrients, salt, and water are absorbed from proximal and distal tubules. Secretion of H+ and reabsorption of HCO3- regulate pH.
