Gene Interaction
Polygenic traits:
-regulated by more than one gene, each gene with it's own alleles. Allele movement looks like dihyrid crosses.
Types of polygenic traits: -complementary interaction, suppression epistasis
Complementary Interaction
Two genes interact to produce a phenotype that neither is capable of producing itself.
Ex. Chicken combs
Comb Phenotype
R allele - rose comb
P allele - pea comb
Both P and R - walnut comb
Neither P or R - single comb
Suppression Epistatis
One gene masks the expression of another gene.
Recognized by showing 3 phenotypes rather than the expected 4. (polygenic)
Ex. Mammal coat color. ( cc suppresses all pigments )
Pleiotropy
One gene affects more than one phenotype
