What is ACS
Range of conditions associated with sudden, reduced blood flow to the heart. Types:
Angina: chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. Arteries supplying blood to the heart narrow by build up of fat.
NStemi: type of heart attack. Partial occlusion of a vessel
Stemi: heart attack. Total blockage of the coronary artery, which can cause extensive damage to the heart
Acs protocol
- Bisopralol: beta blocker used for heart disease and to wide and relax vessels
- aspirine 300mg: antiplatelets (prevent platelets to collect and create clots)
- clopidogrel: antiplatlets
- fondaparinux: anticoagulant. Prevent thromboembolism
- lansoprazole: proton pump inhibitor (if admitted in hospital)
Treatment
- for Angina GTN: help the blood vessels relax and widen up to allow more blood flow
-angiogram: a type of X-ray used to check blood vessels. Blood vessels do not show clearly on a normal X-ray, so a special dye needs to be injected into your blood first. This highlights your blood vessels, allowing your doctor to see any problems.
- coronary artery bypas graft (cabg): reroute blood around the blocked/narrow section of the artery
- coronary angioplasty and stent insertion: stent get inserted to wide up the artery
