interest rates rose in the 1980s- developing countries cant pay their loans back! too expensive

now developing countries spend the majority of their income on paying back the debt- there is nothing left for their basic needs like building schools and stuff

now nations are really paranoid of giving out loans to developing nations b/c they may not be able to pay them back

cities can't provide enough for the high population!---> not enough houses schools running water electricity etc
