RJ-11 Connector

(Registered Jack) This is a telephone jack. This connector is usually used for phone lines and can connect to a modem on a computer. Little bit smaller than a RJ-45 connector. Has a hinged locking tab that locks itself in place.

RJ-45 Connector

The most commonly used network connector. Uses twisted pair cabling. Used to attach network interface cards to hubs and switches. RJ-45 connector is slightly bigger than RJ-11. This connector is a unshielded twisted pair cable.

RJ-48c Connector

This connector is primarily used for T1 lines. It is wired differently from RJ-45 connector. This cable is a shielded twisted pair.

UTP Coupler

Is used to connect UTP network cables. RJ-45 connectors are plugged in on both sides of the coupler. A UTP coupler is used when running longer cable is not a option.

BNC Connector

(Bayonet Neil-Concelman) This connector is a common type of RF connector it is used on coaxial cables. It is used for both analog and digital video as well as audio.

BNC Coupler

Used to connect together 2 coaxial cables with BNC connectors

Fiber Coupler

Used to join 2 of the same fiber optic connectors.

F-type Connector

Threaded connectors used on coaxial cables. Used by cable providers to attach to cable modems.

USB (Universal Serial Bus)

Very common wire used for computers and other devices. There are two types of USB: type A and Type B. Type A resembles a flatter rectangle and Type B resembles a square.

IEEE 1394 (Firewire)

This connector is recognized by the 'D' shape. It is used for digital cameras and printers than for networking purposes. It is also found on many types of video and multimedia devices.

MT-RJ connector

(Mechanical Transferred Registered Jack) This is a fiber optic cable connector. Small form factor for high packed density. This is a latched push-poll connector.

ST connector

(Straight Tip) it is commonly used for single mode fiber optic cable. This uses a half twist bayonet type of lock.

LC connector

(Local Connector) is a fiber optic connector. Similiar to a RJ-45 style. This is commonly used between floors on a building.

SC connector

(Standard Connector) This is a fiber optic cable. This uses a push-pull connector similiar to audio and video plugs. This is commonly used between floors on a building.

RS-232 connector

Serial refers to sending data one bit at a time. These serial cables have a 'D' shaped connector. Most common forms are the DB-9 and DB-25.

UPC Connector

When two straight tip fiber optics are connected together, they are not perfectly aligned. With a UPC, when light goes from one cable to another, not all light passes through and light shoots directly back to it's original source.

APC Connector

When two straight tip fiber optics are connected together, they are not perfectly aligned. With a APC connector, the ends are cut in a diagonal, light that does not pass through shoots back to the wall of the cable instead of bouncing back to the original source.
