The Yalta Conference

At the end of World War 2, the Big 3 met to discuss the post-war world and how to restore peace between nations. It was held at Yalta. Beginning of war also known as Cold War.

Capitalist Economy

The economy system based on the ideas of Capitalist society. America was favoring this system but Russia was completely against it.

Truman Doctrine

Statements of President Truman to congress addressing the idea of stop spreading communism. So $400 billion aid to Greece and Turkey fighting against communist Russia.

Eisenhower Doctrine

President Eisenhower promising military and economic aid to any middle eastern country who were fighting against communism.

McCarthyism

Making attacks on suspected communists without any evidence during the period of the early 1950s in the United States.

Korean War

The Soviet Union surprises America by attacking South Korea. South Korea then turns for help from America. President Truman orders troops to get into South Korea to defend Democracy. 90% of troops were in South Korea at the time to fight the war.

The Marshall Plan

Plan to help all European nations fighting against communist is Marshall Plan. 16 European Countries received $13 billion in aid.

Containment

United States's policy of using numerous strategies to prevent the spread of communism abroad in any countries.

The Warsaw Pact

USSR's own military alliance with 7 other European nations. This is a counteraction of NATO by the communists. This helps Soviets to be head of Satellite nations.

The Berlin Airlift

After the Iron Curtain, West Berlin in Germany was on communist's side. They were having no food and other supplies to live with. So USA and Great Britain plan to supply them foods and other supplies by flying food over them. This event is known as Berlin Airlift.

Iron Curtain

The wall built in Burlin to stop the spread of Communism is Berlin Wall or the Iron Curtain. Division in Europe.

The Domino Theory

Theory prominent from the 1950s to the 1980s, that speculated that if one country in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would follow in a domino effect.

NATO

North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a military alliance by America to stop communism but it failed because soviets create Warsaw Pact by soviets in respond.

The United Nations

Organization to promote peace after world war 2. The outcome of that is Cold War with USSR. 54 nations joined UN.

Douglas McArthur

Wants full-scale war with China with Nuclear Weapons. Rejected by Truman so he is critizing him with letters and reporters. So Truman decided to fire him for his behavior.

Red Scare

Hysteria over the perceived threat posed by Communists in the U.S. became known as the Red Scare. Rise of McCarthyism.
