Function of CNS
*receives input from sensory neurons
*directs activity or motor neurons
*sensory: allows brain to know environment so that it knows what it can help
*stores memory and perception, thought
Examples of protection in the CNS
*hair and scalp for brian (50% fat)
*vertebral column for spinal cord
*meningies: Dura mater (tough), arachnoid membrane, and pia mater
*CSF (cranial spinal fluid)
*blood brain barrier (regulates so it doesn't deviate from neuro-functions); hormones , chemicals are kept out
*location of cell bodies( well protected by spinal cord); all motor neurons are near or around CNS, when cell bodies die-spinal cord dies, sensory neurons are near spinal column

*
Functions and density of CSF
*80-150 ml
*lightens the wieght of brian by 30 times (reduces 50g of weight on brain)
*likens brain to a no gravity environment
*also filters blood that goes to the spinal fluid
*is NOT interstitial fluid its extracellular around neurons
*
