Cloud Architectures
private, public, hybrid, community service
Private Cloud
* (internal cloud or corporate cloud) completely proprietary to a specific network and it's users all of which are located behind a specific firewall

* is not actually a cloud at all eg. the IT department of a company creating and maintaining a computing resource environment, virtualized or not, that is available only to its internal users.

* in the past was known as an enterprise network however currently known as a private cloud

* provides storage and computing to specific subscribers

* a virtualized environment that exists for exclusive use by a single company or organization made up of multiple entities and users

* can be owned by a proprietary structure, service provider, or both

* can be on premises or accessed over the internet

Personal Cloud
* is a limited form of private cloud* unlike a private cloud , a personal cloud may or may not include a firewall or any other security devices* also called a MIFI
Public Cloud
* provides only access to the internet, provides services over the internet* allows a company or organization to purchase one or a set of services that are accessed and delivered via the internet from a third-party vendor* when using a public cloud service the company doesn't own the computing resources involved in the delivery of a service

Benefits of a Public Cloud

* Availability: refers to the reliability of a cloud service typically expressed as a percentage of uptime such as 99.99 percent availability (four-nines availability)

* Reduced Investment: by using a public cloud service you can avoid a large investment but still have the same application system available by paying a much smaller subscription fee. using a public cloud service not only reduces the investment required to gain software-based functionality but lowers the organization's risk of making a bad software choice and having to live with it. eg. CRM

* Reduced Maintenance: cloud provider performs all system maintenance including hardware and software. also means that any hardware capacity requirement increases or replacements are automatically scalable and handled by the provider. the CSP (cloud service provider) is responsible for backups, disaster planning and recovery and staffing and staff training.
