Rainforest Biome
has a Tropical – wet and humid climate, vegetation includes canopy, under canopy and shrubs and it can be found in the Amazon Basin
Desert Biome
a hot or cold and dry climate, vegetation includes cacti and ground- hugging trees and it can be found in Africa
Savanna Biome
Cold dry winter and hot wet summer, vegetation includes grasses and drought- resistant trees. Can be found in the North coast of Australia
Steppe Biome
Dry climate, vegetation is mainly grasses with size dependant on rain; can be found in Western North America (Great Plains)
Chaparral Biome
Wet winter, dry summer, vegetation is plants with large leaves that hold moisture; can be found on the Western tip of Australia
Grassland Biome
Cold winter, warm summer, main vegetation is grasses; can be found in the North American Interior
Taiga Biome
Long, cold winter and short, cool summer, vegetation is fir trees; location in Canada from Yukon to Labrador
Deciduous Forest Biome
Summer and winter have very large changes: very hot in summer to very cold in winter, vegetation includes trees, small trees shrubs, herbs and ground cover; found in Eastern parts of the US and Southern Canada
Tundra Biome
Long severe winter, short mild season, vegetation includes lichens and mosses; can be found in the Hudson Bay region
Alpine Biome
Cool to cold: the higher the altitude the colder the temperature, vegetation includes perennials that hug the ground; found in the Rocky Mountain range in North America
Biome
a large geographic area of distinct plant and animal groups which have adapted to that environment
The three basic climate groups
Low Latitude, Mid Latitude and High Latitude
Climates are affected by these four factors
Latitude, Altitude, Winds and Distance from the Sea
Westerlies
winds which blow from the southwest and the northwest to the east away from the 30 º latitude belt
Trade winds
winds which blow from Southeast and Northeast to the west away from the 30 º latitude belt
Low Latitude Climates
Found between 0º and 30 º North and South
Mid Latitude Climates
Found between 30 º and 60 º North and South
High Latitude Climates
Found between 80 º and 90 º North and South
Seasons
Caused when the earth rotates on its tilted axis around the sun and different parts of the earth receive higher or lower levels of radiant heat from the sun

Humid Equatorial, Dry, Humid Temperate, Cold Polar, Humid Cold
