A change in size, shape, color, or state of matter.

(LOCOM) Law of Conservation of Matter

Matter is neither created or destroyed during a chemical change.

Substance

Matter that is either an element or a compound.

Colloid

Chemical Property

A characteristic of a substance that indicates whether it can undergo a specific chemical change.

Compound

A substance made of the combined atoms of two or more elements.

Chemical change

The change of substances in to different substances.

Solution

A homogeneous mixture that does not settle containing particles so tiny that they cannot be seen even with a microscope.

Suspension

A heterogeneous mixture containing a liquid in which larger particles eventually settle out.

Element

A substance in which the atoms in a sample are alike.

Distillation

The process for separating substances in a mixture by evaporating a liquid and re-condensing the vapor.
