Know-Nothings
They were part of an anti-immigrant movement. They even formed their own political party (the American Party), although that party didn’t last long.
Republican Party
This party was formed in 1854. It was an anti-slavery party that grew in the North. It included abolitionists (people who wanted to end slavery everywhere) and people who just wanted to prevent slavery from spreading to new areas.

He was Democrat and a senator from Mississippi. He was elected President of the Confederate States of America when they seceded from the United States.
Fort Sumter
In April, 1861, Confederate troops opened fire with cannons on Fort Sumter, a U.S. fort in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina. This began the Civil War!!!
