Chord
Is a segment that joins two points of the circle
Diameter
is a chord that contains the center of the circle.
In a cirlce,
a radius perpendicular to a chord bisects the chord.
In a circle, congruent chords are equidistant
from the center.
In a circle, congruent chords
have congruent arcs.
In a circle, parallel chords
intercept congruent arcs.
Central angle
formed by two intersecting radii such that its vertex is at the center of the circle. It equals the intercepted arc.
Inscribed angle
Formed by two intersecting chords. Equals 1/2 of the intercepted arc.
Tangent
Touches the circle at exactly one point.
Intersecting chord rule for segments
PART X PART = PART X PART
Secant Secant rule
Whole x outside = whole x outside
Secant tangent rule
Tan^2= whole x outside
Angle Formed Inside of a Circle by Two Intersecting Chords:
(Arc + Arc) divided by 2
Angle Formed Outside of a Circle by the Intersection of:
(Big arc - Little arc) divided by 2
