Expanded MIO

Sanctions Enforcement

Counter Proliferation

Homeland Security
AIS
Automatic Identification System - System used by ships and vessel traffic systems (VTS) principally for the identification of vessels at sea.
MMSI
MOBILE MARITIME SERVICE IDENTIFIER - A unique 9 digit number that is assigned to a specific vessel.

Consolidated Exercise Support Request (CESR)

COLISEUM (outdated)
EARLY WARNING (EW)
Provides advance warning of an intruder to alert the defense forces.
GROUND CONTROLLED INTERCEPT (GCI)
Provides target location and a means of directing fighter aircraft to intercept and destroy intruder.
TARGET ACQUISITION (TA)
Provides target information to a fire control RADAR.
TARGET TRACKING (TT)
Measures the coordinates of a target and provides data that may be used to determine the target’s path and to predict the future position.
MISSILE GUIDANCE (MG)
Guidance of a missile from it’s launch point to the intended target.
WARM
WARTIME RESERVE MODE

When a radar’s operating parameters are intentionally changed to reduce the effectiveness of EW equipment during wartime.
SPECIFIC EMITTER INDENTIFICATION (SEI)
A method of recognizing individual electronic emitters through the precise measurement of selected signal externals (parameters and/or characteristics). Often referred to as RADAR fingerprinting.
UNINTENTIONAL MODULATION ON the PULSE (UMOP)
UMOP is the characterization of an emitter by exploiting unique, repeating external features of the Radio Frequency (RF) pattern.
LIST the four reasons for the decline in use of HULTEC

(replaced by SEI)
Overwhelming amount of commercial navigation RADARS used for merchant shipping

Most COMNAV radars no longer use crystal control

National Systems are not capable of performing HULTEC

Many naval vessels now use commercial navigation systems
Range Resolution
The ability of a radar to distinguish between two targets that are close together at the same azimuth and elevation.
LIST the tactical data processors utilized to manipulate Operational Electronic Intelligence (OPELINT) information
Global Command and Control System – Maritime (GCCS-M)

Standard Tactical Receive Equipment Display (STRED)

Generic Area Limitations Environment – Lite (GALE-Lite)
What does the Joint Tactical Terminal (JTT) provide the OPELINT watch?
The intelligence information that is provided to the analyst is received in near-real-time.

(Fast, but LOS limited)
*State the purpose of Electronic Warfare*
Military action involving the use of electro-magnetic energy to determine, exploit, reduce, or prevent hostile use of the electro-magnetic spectrum (EMS).
Describe the mission and function of the CTT Electronic Warfare Operator.
EW operators are responsible for formulating and executing electronic attack and protect options as dictated by the tactical situation
Electronic Support (ES)
The actions taken to search for, detect, localize, and identify sources of radiated electromagnetic energy for tactical purposes.
Electronic Attack (EA)
Involves the use of equipment, devices, and tactics to prevent or reduce the enemies effective use of the EMS.
Electronic Protect (EP)
Actions taken to ensure friendly effective use of the EMS, despite an enemies use of EA
ASMD- Anti-Ship Missile Defense
Encompasses all aspects of defending a ship against missile attack.
BDA-Battle Damage Assessment
The estimate of damage resulting from the application of lethal or nonlethal military force.
CTTG-Counter Targeting
Employed during Pre-hostilities consistent with ROE to deny, reduce, or confuse and adversaries targeting process
RCS-Radar Cross Section
A measure in Square Meters of a ships reflected Electro-magnetic energy
MILDEC- Military Deception
Deliberately mislead advisory military decision makers as to friendly military capabilities, intentions and operations, thereby causing the advisory to take specific action or inactions
AN/SLQ-32 (V)
Surface Navy’s primary EW suite designed as an ASMD system for surface combatants.
