six or more beats to each breath cycle - always indicates heat
Rapid
a pulse that is rapid and stops at irregular intervals
Hasty
feels large under the finger, very superfical and broad - like a river flooding its banks - goes beyond natural boundry in all directions
Overflowing
rounded, slips or slides under the finger and flow smoothly - like pearls rolling in a basin
Slippery
short, slippery, rapid and gives the impression of 'shaking' or 'vibrating' instead of pulsating - felt more frequently in cun and guan positions
Moving
only felt at superficial - relatively floating but weak and soft like wet cotton - disappears with stronger pressure
Soggy
feels rough, jagged and short - flows with out a wave
Choppy
no strength and disappears with light pressure - soft but relatively big and distended at the superficial level
Empty
cannot be felt at the supeficial level - by definition deep - feels soft and without strenght
Weak
8 times per breath cycle - 'hurried, anxious, agitated, urgent'
Hurried
thin and thread like - clear and straight - feels like a line under the finger
Fine
feels as if broken into many tiny dots instead of flowing smoothly - realitivly superficial and disappears with pressure
Scattered
does not fill a pulse position - felt at center but tapers off at head and tail - more common in cun and guan
Short
feels hard full and long - felt at all 3 levels -springy quality - resistant to pressure
Full
superficial and hard - felt clearly at every level - taut string of a guitar
Wiry
large, broad, overflowing from its boundry and full - more shape than overflowing - not necessarily rapid
Big
hard and feels like a rope being twisted - springy feeling when the pressure is released (not as much as wiry)
Tight
simply longer than normal - extends lenghtwise beyond the pulse boundary
Long
very thin, almost blurred - extreme fine
Minute
