Shang Dynasty
First organized river society, introduced writing on oracle bones, local trade, ancestor worship, bronze age, and was built along the Huang He River.
Chou Dynasty
Feudal regional China, "Warring period", built schools of Phiosophy= legalism, Taoism, Confucianism, occurred during the Bronze age
Ch'in Dynasty
Shi Huang di, unifiec China using legalism, he was cruel to to Confucians. He built the Great wall and is known for his terra cotta army. During this dynasty, standard currency was established, roads were built, and power was centralized.
Han Dynasty
Classical Age of China. There were many inventions such as paper during this time. Confucian civil service begins. Wealthy traders establish the Silk Roads. There is excellent art and education but it is eventually conquered by the Huns
Sui Dynasty
after 300 years of regional rule in China, this dynasty begins. Much smaller than previous dynasty but otherwise much like the Ch'in Dynasty in its legalist beliefs.
Tang Dynasty
Confucianism becomes prevalent again. This dynasty Conquered territory in China and Korea. Traders brought Confucian ideals to Japan. Art and science thrive once more. Inventions like the printing press and gunpowder occur, and landscape art becomes popular. Buddhism Spreads.
Song Dynasty
Merchant Society, urban life increases, and it is a time of wealth. Confucian and Buddhist ideals coexist. good time with lots of trade along the Silk Road. Eventually crushed by Mongols
Yuan Dynasty
Mongols led by Kublai Khan. Led the Chinese System of Government with foreign rulers. He killed 40 million Chinese. Confucians were persecuted but they still wrote drama and opera. Trade still increases along the Silk Road, Taoism gains popularity among the Mongols.
Ming Dynasty
Re-take China from the Mongols, tons of trade throughout Asia. Trade with Europe for porcelain, silver, and tea. Neo Confucians reinstate the Civil Service Exam. The Manchu northern tribes conquer them.
Qing Dynasty
Foreign conquerors of China; oppressed the native Han Dynasty; trade with Europeans eventually leads to conflict in the Opium Wars and then to foreign occupation of coastal cities of China. Rebellions, foreign rebellions, and government corruption led to its downfall.
