Isotopes

Atoms of the same element, with the same atomic number, but different mass numbers.

Relative isotopic mass

The mass of one atom of an isotope relative to the mass of one atom of carbon-12, for which the relative mass is defined as exactly 12.

Atomic number

Number of protons in its nucleus.

Mass Number

Number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus.

Mole

The mass of a substance containing the same number of fundamental units as there are atoms in exactly 12g of Carbon-12.

Avogadro's constant

The number of particles there are in a mole of a substance.

Orbital

A region in space around the nucleus of an atom in which there is a 95% chance of finding an electron, or a pair of electrons with opposite spins.

Relative atomic mass

The average mass, taking into account each isotope mass, of the atoms of that element relative to 1/12th the mass of a carbon-12 atom.
