What do chemists use to measure mass?
Relative to Carbon 12. Carbon with a mass of 12 amu.
What is Avogrado's #?
6.022 x 10^23 units = 1 mole
What is molar mass?
Mass in grams of one mole of the substance.
What is the empirical formula?
Simplest whole # ratio.
What is percentage yield?
Actual yield / Theoritical yield x 100%.
How do you find which reactant is the limiting reagent?
1) Balance the equation. 2)Find the mole ration between the reactants. 3) Analyze how many moles of one reactant are required to react with another reactant in order to form the product. 4) Whichever reactant runs out first is the limiting reagent.
What is a solvent? A solute?
A solvent is the dissolving medium. A solute is the substance being dissolved.
Why is water a polar molecule?
Water is a polar molecule because Oxygen has a partial negative charge and Hydrogen as a partial positive charge.
What is hydration?
When the positive ends of the water molecules are attracted to the negatively charged anions and the negative ends of the water molecules are attracted to the positively charged cations.
