What is the kinetic theory?
Particles in all forms of matter that are in constant motion.
What is kinetic energy?
the energy an object has because of its motion.
What are the differences between spacing of particles and movement of gases, liquids,& solids.
gases:very far apart, rapid movement in random directions
liquids:particles very close to eachother, slide past eachother
solids:packed tightly together, locked in a fixed position(vibrate back and forth)
Define boiling point and what is unique about the normal boiling point?
boiling point is the temp. at which the vapor pressure is equal to the external pressure. Normal boiling point=pressure at sea level(101.3kPa)
define vapor pressure.
vapor pressure is a force due to a gas above a liquid.
What is absolute zero and what is the temperature?
absolute zero is when particles w/ no kinetic energy that are not moving. temp.=0 kelvin
