Define Solvent

The component of a solution that is present in the greatest amount. It is the substance in which thesolute is dissolved.

Define Solute

The substance that is dissolved in a solution. For solutions of fluids, the solvent is present in greater amount than the solute.

Define Solution

A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. A solution may exist in any phase .

Define Precipitate

A precipitate is an insoluble solid that emerges from a liquid solution. The emergence of the insoluble solid from solution is called precipitation. Often the precipitate emerges as a suspension.

Define Exothermic reaction

An exothermic reaction is a chemical or physical reaction that releases heat. It gives out energy to its surroundings. The energy needed for the reaction to occur is less than the total energy released.

Define Endothermic reaction

A chemical reaction accompanied by the absorption of heat

Define Chemical Change

Chemical change is any change that results in the formation of new chemical substances.

Define Physical Change

Definition of Physical Changes. Substances often undergo changes that make them have a dramatically different appearance even though the chemical composition of the substance remains unchanged.

Define Reactants

A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a reaction.

Define Products

The compounds that are formed when a reaction goes to completion.
