What is the scientific method composed of?

Observation, question, hypothesis, prediction, experiment, and conclusion.

Hypothesis

A hypothesis is a testable explanation that has not yet been proven. The hypothesis may be tested by observation or through a series of experiments.

Prediction

Pick your favorite hypothesis.


Restated as an if, then statement.

Experiment

Made up of two groups and two variables.

Control group

Receives no change in any variables. This is used as a baseline to compare to the treatment group.

Treatment group

Receives a change in one variable, but all others remain the same.


Variables

Dependent variable and independent variable.

Independent variable

It is the variable I change. The variables we modify at the start of the experiment.

Dependant variable

Variables that change in response to the experiment.
