Ingestion:
when the mouth takes in food.
Digestion:
Involves the breakdown of larger pieces of food into smaller pieces that can be acted on by the digestive enzymes.
Movement Peristalsis:
Food must be passed along from one organ to the next, normally by contractions of smooth muscle tissue called peristalsis, and indigestible remains must be expelled.
Absorption:
Occurs as subunit molecules produced by chemical digestion (i.e. nutrients) cross the wall of the GI tract and enter the cells lining the tract

Elimination

: removes molecules that cannot be digested and need to be discharged from the body.

Mouth

receives food and begins the process of mechanical ad chemical digestion.

Uvula

A fleshy extension at the back of the soft palate that hangs above the throat.

Salivary Glands

secrete saliva by way of ducts to the mouth.
