Emergent layer

The four main layers above the forest floor are the emergent layer, the upper canopy, the lower canopy, and the understory.

~it is the top layer

Canopy

Considered the primary layer of the rain forest

~the second layer

Epiphytes

~Ex- orchard

understory

Very little light reaches this layer.

-Trees and shrubs that are adapted to shade grow here

~below the canopy

Temperature rain forest

Occurs in North America, Australia, and New Zealand.

-Temperature rain forest have large amounts or precipitation, High humidity, and moderate temperatures.

Temperature deciduous forest

Trees drop their broad, flat leaves each fall.

Taiga

Northern coniferous forest that stretched in a broad band across the Northern Hemisphere just below the Arctic Circle.

Temperate grasslands

Covers large areas of the interior of continents, where there is moderate rainfall, but still too little for trees to grow.

The chaparral

Is a temperate shrubland biome that is found in all parts of the world with a Mediterranean climate.

Deserts

Tundra

Biome is located in northern arctic regions.

Are permanently frozen throughout the year

~ The deeper layers of soil
