golden age..
The golden ages were times of prosperity and harmony. The Greeks just won the Persian War. Athens was the symbol of the Golden ages. Their happiness was expressed through art: structures, paintings, sculptures... etc.
How did the Greeks use art to express their values?
The glorified humans, combined beauty and usefullness, showed moderation, balance and harmony, and pride in their polis in all their artwork.
How did Greeks of the golden age comment on their society through literature, comedy and drama?
They took their history more seriously and their art help express their feelings. Play writers were able to express their feeling through plays.
What three empires were created from the conquests of ATG?
Eqypt, Macedon, Syria
Hellenistic society on women? what changed?
They appeared out in public more often and they had property rights.
Why were the Hellenistic Ages prosperous?
Much more trading was going on and some cities became big commercial centers. Middle class also started to thrive.

Acropolis?
The Acropolis was Athen's acropolis (high hill). It was in the middle of the original polis. Many temples, monuments, shrines, and sculptures were built upon it and a grand gate stood at the entrance. During times of war, people would take shelter inside its protective walls.
Parthenon?
The Parthenon was a shrine for Athena located at the top of the Acropolis.It was made of white marble pillars and inside it stood the magnificent ivory and gold statue of Athena (38 feet tall). Said to be one of the Greeks biggest 'acheivments'
Myron?
Myron was a famous sculptor who is said to be one of the best in history. He is well known for his sculpture: The Discus Thrower.
Phidias?
Phidias was a sculptor, but his work was much more grand. He made the Athena that decorated the Acropolis, but one of his best works of art was the statue of Zeus at the Temple of Olympia. It used to be considered as one of the wonders of the world.
Praxiteles
Praxiteles also was a sculptor. His works of art were more realistic. His sculptures displayed the Greek admiration for the human body..
Philosophy?
Greek philosophy was the study of basic questions of reality and human existence. Greek philosophers expanded the knowledge of scientific principles and introduced debate of ethics, wisdom, and high ideals.
aristocracy?
The word aristocracy='ruled by the best.' Which basically meant ruled by nobles. The aristocrats that made up aristocracies gained power and in the 700s BC they began to overthrow kings for power. Most aristocrats/nobles were usually rich landowners. Aristocracies controlled most aspects of society.
drama?
The Greeks were the first to introduce drama, plays. They included either: emotion, action, conflict, or dialogue. Dramas were performed in outdoor theatres and men played the parts of women.
