Battle of Bunker Hill

The deadliest battle of the war. The British suffered more casualties than the colonists, this made the colonists more hopeful and the British more afraid.

The night before Christmas, Washington led his men to attack unsuspecting British soldiers, killing 30 and taking 918 captive. This tremendous victory rallied the colonies

Battle of Saratoga
|
Saratoga was the turning point of the war. British General Burgoyne planned to meet other troops and join forces to isolate New England at Albany,but the others are delayed. Massed American troops surrounded Burgoyne at Saratoga where he surrendered. This battle changed British war strategies drastically. This Battle also solidified the French trust in Americans, resulting in an alliance.

Valley Forge

Washington put his troops in Valley Forge for the winter. The conditions were miserable, there is a lack of food,water and shelter. Of 10,000 who entered Valley Forge, 2,000 died and many deserted.

Battle of Yorktown
|
Cornwallis goes to Yorktown to get supplies but is attacked. Siege of Yorktown lasted about 3 weeks. Cornwallis surrenders to Washington.

Allies
|
Frederich Von Steuben and Marquis de Lafayette were two very influential allies to the Americans. Von Steuben was a Prussian captain who helped Washington train troops at Valley Forge, transforming the troops into a "real army". Lafayette was a French aristocrat that joined Washington at Valley Forge and persuaded the French to join the Americans.

Treaty of Paris(1783)

United States, Spain, France and Britain attended. The treaty confirmed the U.S. as independent and set boundaries for the new nation. Negotiations here would lead to troubles in the future.
