How far should a driver look ahead of them??
Looking ahead 10-15 seconds will allow time to prepare for traffic conditions. Avoids last second moves.
What should you know about Blind spots and Rear view mirrors??
Important for your rearview mirrors to be in the correct position. When you are driving you have 2 blind spot areas to the left & right back sides of your car. Even with properly adjusted mirrors, turn your hear, check over your shoulder and make sure no one is in your blind spot when you want to change lanes.`
What is a space cushion?
A cushion of space ahead, behind, and to the sides gives you some distance to avoid the mistakes of other drivers.
How do you know if you are too close to a car in front of you?
Use the 2-second rule. If it takes less than two seconds for your car to pass the check point, you are following too close. During bad weather or wet pavement, increase time to 4 seconds.
What should you know about parking on hills??
Always set the emergency brake so your car does not roll into traffic if the brake dont work. Shift to park, reverse, or low gear.
If you park where there is a curb on a hill you should:
1. Facing downhill, turn your wheels toward the curb and shift into reverse or park.
2. Facing uphill, turn your wheels away from the curb and shift into low gear or park

1. Watch for traffic both ahead and behind.
2. Signal & begin to slow dwn
3.Make sure rear of car will clear any parked car
4. Steer sharply into parking space. Then straighten wheels, centering your car in the parking space.
5. Shift to park or reverse and apply the parking brake.

2. Move your car back slowly & be sure traffice is clear in the lane you are backing.

How do you parallel park?
1. Signal, stop parallel to the front car (about 18 inches from it), w/ rear bumpers even.
2. Back slowly, turning wheel sharply to the right until your car is about a 45 degree angle w/ the street. Straighten front wheels & back slowly.
3. When front bumper is even with other car's back bumper, turn wheels sharply and rapidly to left. Back slowly to car behind you without touching it.
4. Turn steering wheel sharply to the right and slowly pull forward. Center car in space. Front & rear bumpers should not be closer then two feet from the other vehicles when in parked position unless the street is otherwise marked
When passing parked cars what are some clues for cars that may be turning out in front of you??
* Smoke coming from tailpipe
* Red brake lights on, turning signal flashing, white backing lights on
* At parallel parking areas, front wheels turning out.
* Watch for doors opening
What should you know about backing up??
Check behind your vehicle before backing. Do not depend on your mirrors. Turn your head and body so you can where you are backing. Place your hand at the top of the steering wheel and back slowly. Always be prepared to stop.
What is the best way to increase visiablility when backing up?
Turn your head and look out the rear window.
