What is a leased line?

A cable that runs from CO main office to customer premises. Provides a WAN link

What is CSU/DSU

Channel service unit / data service unit.

What is HDLC?

Higher data link control . This is one of the data link protocol used the send IP packets over leased lines

What does a csu/dsu connect too?

Its connects to a router serial interface on one side and the leased line on the other side.

Can routers have inbuilt CSU/DSU?

Yes.

There for the router serial interface connects direct to the leased line cable

What are the predefined speeds telco provides for leased lines?

The lowest is multiples of 6.4kbps and highest is multiples of 1.5mbps

How to make a home WAN link

Get a DTE cable( data terminal equipment and connect it to a a router onnone side.

Then connect the DCE (data communications equipment) cable to the DTE.

The DCE acts like a crossover cable

What is tge function of the CSU/DSU?

Provides the funtion of CLOCKING which sets the timing/rate of bits being sent from the router over the serial link

Name two types of data link protocols used on leased lines?

HDLC - Higher Data Layer Control

PPP - Point to Point protocol

What field is added the HDLC header thats is not not used as the standard ISO

Type - As routers need to know the type of packet when forwarding

What is the Data link logic of HDLC

1) PC1 Encapsultes IP Packet in Etherner frame and forwards it to R1

2) R1 De-capsulates IP packet and encapsulates it with a HDLC HEADER AND TRAILER and sends to to R2

3) R2 De- encapsulates tye IP packet and encapsulates it with a Ethernet header to be forwrded to PC2

Are leased line Full or Half duplex?

FULL. as these send and receive data at the same time

Explain the basic setup of Ethernet WAN technology?

Routers connect to and ethernet link fiber cable

1000base lx

The etherlink from CPE connects to some Point of Presence on the ISP network

What data link Protocol does Ethernet WAN technology use?

Use EoMPLS-

MULTI PROTOCOL LABEL SWITCHING

Whic is rhe same format as an Ethernet header and trailer

Name 3 types of Internet Access links ?

1) leased lines

2) Dsl

3) Cabled

Explain DSL LINES?

Are short WAN links between Customer and ISP router

Connection is provided through your ANALOGUE phone line

No change needa to be made to existing equipmenr

What needs to be added exiating phone cuatomer for DSL to work?

Just need to install a Dsl modem on Cx side that coonects to phone cable on the wall sideAnd a router with Ethernet on the other aide of DSL modem.

On the ISP side theres needs to be a DSLAM.

What Internet access technologies use asymmetric speeds?

DSL AND CABLE

They have a greater downstream speed than upspeed
