What is a Process Group

A logical grouping of processes according to where in the project it is used

What are the 5 Process Groups

Initiating

Planning

Executing

Monitoring and Controlling

Closing

Tailoring

The act of carefully selecting processes and related inputs and outputs contained within the PMBoK to determine a subset of specific processes that will be included within a project's overall management

Initiating Process Group

Those processes performed te define a new project or phase of an existing project by obtaining authorisation to start the project or phase.

Progressive Elaboration

The iterative process of increasing the level of detail in a project management plan as greater amounts of information and more accurate estimates become available.

Planning Process Group

Those processes required to establish the scope of the project, refine the objectives, an define the course of action required to attain the objectives that the project was undertaken to achieve

Project Management Plan

The document that describes how the project will be executed, monitored and controlled.

Baseline

Monitoring & Controlling Process Group

Those processes required to track, review and regulate the progress and performance of the project, identify any areas in which changes to the plan arae required and initiating the corresponding changes.

Work Performance Data

The raw observations and measurements identified during activities being performed to carry out a project.

Work Performance Information

The performance data collected from various controlling processes, analysed in context, and integrated based on relationships across areas.

Work Performance Reports

The physical or electronic representation of Work Performance Information compiled in project documents, intended to generate decisions, actions or awareness.
