Signs and symptoms of fracture

Deformity, Tenderness, Gaurding


Swelling, bruising, crepitus, false motion, exposed fragments, pain, locked joint


S & S of dislocation

Marked deformity and pain that is aggravated by any attempt at movement

When do you splint

All fractures, dislocations, and sprains before moving patient, unless he or she is in immediate danger

Goals of in line traction

Stabilize fracture fragments


Align sufficiently


Avoid potential neurovascular compromise

Pelvis fracture

Not all fractures happen from trauma


May be accompanied by life threatening blood loss


Open are uncommon

Prox femur fracture

Pt lie with leg externally rotated and the injured limb is usually shorter than opposite, uninjured limb

Amputations

Immobilize part with bulky dressings


Apply tourniquet if bleeding is not controlled
